Purchase Protection and Extended Warranty Explained
Purchase Protection and Extended Warranty Explained
Your credit card might already cover purchases against damage, theft, and premature failure. Here’s how to use these benefits.
Extended Warranty
What it covers: Extends manufacturer warranty by 1-2 additional years
How it works:
- Original warranty must be 3 years or less
- Card’s extension adds time (typically doubles, up to 1-2 years)
- Covers what the original warranty covered
Example: TV has 1-year warranty. Card adds 1 year. TV fails in month 18 → Card covers repair.
Cards with Best Coverage
Premium cards (Sapphire Reserve, Amex Platinum) typically offer better coverage limits and terms.
No-fee cards may still have coverage—check your benefits guide.
